BMC Direct Trade Practices
Direct Trade is a supply practice that involves traveling to coffee producing countries, establishing relationships with coffee farmers, encouraging them to maintain a certain quality and guaranteeing a fair market price based on their cooperation.
The practice empowers the farmer to retain ownership of his or her crop from the field to the bag and finally to the shipping container.
Fair Trade, by comparison, pays the higher fees collected for the label to businesses, cooperatives and administrators thus guaranteeing little, if any of the true value of the coffee and the expenses of growing it reaching the actual farmer. But hey, it’s a cool label.
Boquete Mountain Coffee endeavors to establish and maintain our valuable relationships wherever and whenever possible. Making Direct Trade a practice and not just a label, we feel, reflects the care and and attention to every coffee we sell.
